I know, in a perfect world, we’re supposed to aim for weekly date-nights. But, life. But, work. Oh, and kids. It’s unrealistic for most of us. So, I decided to aim for monthly date-nights. So, that’s only 12 dates a year and I thought, I’d better make the most of them. Date-nights are so important. Although my husband and I have daily doses of Netflix and chill, which some would consider a date-night, I wanted to do more with the little time we have together. Here are 12 date-night ideas for the upcoming new year, one for each month.
1. Recreate your first meeting or your first date.
Reenact the first time you met or your first date as accurately as possible. Really get into it. There’s nothing like reminiscing and the feeling of nostalgia.
2. Create a signature scent for each other.
Visit a local perfumery and create scents for each other. If you cannot find one in your area you can still create surprise scents for each. Go for a quick coffee date and while you’re both sipping, create scents for each other online as a lot of companies now offer this service.
3. Try a new hobby together.
Whip out your camera and head over to your local park and snap some pictures of nature, go hiking, or try your hand at DIY projects. Learn how to cook, paint, draw, or play a sport/game you’ve always wanted to.
4. Get competitive.
A lot of bars and pubs have trivia nights. Choose a theme you both would be up for like one that’s popular right now, Harry Potter, and make a bet. Play against each other or keep score of who gets more points if you’re playing as a team. You could also play opt to stay at home and try you hand at video games or board games.
5. Take a class together.
Choose a class that you both find interesting and fun like a cooking, bartending class, yoga etc. There are so many options.
6. Check something off of your bucket list.
Make a bucket list and choose something that you’re able to do together right now. Maybe sky diving?
7. Share an experience from your childhood with each other.
Is there an arcade that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy when you think back at all of the hours you spent there as a kid? Or perhaps a cabin your family used to visit in the summer? A special activity or location that brings back memories of happier times? Think of your fondest memories from your childhood and try to experience it again with your partner.
8. Give back.
Find a charity that you are both passionate about and offer your time together to help others.
9. Get fit together.
Take a trending fitness class, sign up for yoga, go bike riding, or train for a marathon together.
10. Redecorate a room together.
Choose a room that could use some TLC. Come up with a budget and theme. Spend a few weekends looking through your favorite magazines for ideas, visiting flea markets for cheap buys, and poking through your favorite stores together.
11. Go on a tour in your own city.
There are so many things to see in every city and no matter how long you both have lived in your own city, it’s likely that you still haven’t seen everything. Take a tour. There are unique tours like food tours where you visit various restaurants while learning about your city and hauntings tours where you visit supposedly haunted locations in your area.
12. Be a kid again, with out the kids.
Go to a water park, an arcade, or a carnival with out the kids.
